CHRISTMAS, 2025
First term over. Going back to Saskatchewan for Christmas. Not feeling too much, really.
Dedicated to my loyal readers: Vincent, Darrin, Jake, and Bella. Stop harassing me about these posts. I
started writing this one on the 17th, and then decided to rewrite it.
Well, here's the deal. Let's debrief.
It's 11:52PM, December 18th. Drinking an ice-cold Asahi Super Dry right now.
Started university, passed my first term. A+ in CSC111 (Fundamentals of Programming with Engineering
Applications), an A for SLST101 (Russian), somewhere around a B+ for ENGR110 (Design and
Communications), a C in Math 110 (Matrix Algebra for Engineers), and a D in Physics 110. I can't complain
really, because I'll only have to retake physics and I only watched like 4 lectures the whole semester. It
happens.
My Co-op Work Term Challenge Report cleared too, with an 86/100. Only comment I got was "Good effort,
Peter." Not really sure what that means, but okay.
I've got friends out here, I've (still) got a job, and I've got prospects (namely WEC 2026 and the CFES CDE next
year). Morale has had its highs and lows this term, and I'm looking forward to the next. Coming home will be
nice, but I know I won't stay. I have work to finish here, and I'm a big sunk costs guy. I'd be staying out
here even if I didn't like it.
This term has been pretty sleepy and quiet. Lots of going to class and coming home. The big story beats are
still ongoing, like my ongoing beef with my landlord or working on UVic Robotics stuff. I'll keep you
posted, but most of this stuff is TBD. I hope you can appreciate the mundane parts of my life for now.
Currently, I've got a few projects on the roster that I'm looking to finish going into the new year.
Examples include a JS build of this site, complete with a web widget hooked up to the Spotify API to pull my
listening data and plug my immaculate taste. I don't know JS, so that's going to be a little bit of a
hurdle. I did the CAD for a CD player earlier this year, and I hope to have that done ASAP. Lots more has
been sitting in cold storage on my Google Tasks. I dunno man. No shortage of things to do, clearly.
My parents will be happy to see me, I'm sure. I've got friends and family that I love back home. But I can
never seem to shake the feeling that there's nothing left for me back in Regina. I love and loathe the Queen
City with all of my heart. I came out here to do something with myself, and I'm working on that. The best is
yet to come. Anyways, I'm proud of this, and of us. Someday, we'll all be free.
I'm gonna keep thuggin it out until I come home. I've got a week left of hiking (pic below) and waiting
around. At this point, I'm at a loss as to what I should say next. Next blog post will need a suggestions
box for the things I should write about.
I'll leave this last part as a thank you, to you, the reader. Wishing you all a merry Christmas and wealth,
prosperity, and that kind of thing coming into the New Year.
Take care out there.
- Your friend, Peter
